Beyond learning to grow

A young person’s farming journey includes decisions about work, money, family, and the future. Awakening Young Farmer brought personal development and enterprise learning into the same conversation as growing vegetables.

Three connected approaches

The original program connected Youth Develop Youth, Agroecology Youth, and Young Agripreneur. Its approach included capacity building in personal development, agribusiness, and money management; garden apprenticeships and seed grants; and support for small-scale vegetable farming businesses.

What the early record shows

The U.S. Mission to ASEAN’s project highlight documented seven core youths from four Cambodian provinces, five sites intended for diversified gardens, and a completed three-day training in Phnom Penh. These milestones describe the 2023 YSEALI-supported phase.

Learning toward a lasting model

That early experience forms part of Dassatek’s foundation. Our ambition is to connect food production, practical training, and enterprise development in a regenerative farm and training institute. We will continue to distinguish this ambition from the activities already delivered.
